Connect a WooCommerce store with native **REST API keys**. SearchMention pulls products and categories on a Laravel job — WordPress does not need to stay open, and you do not install a SearchMention plugin.

## Before you start

You need WooCommerce admin access and a SearchMention store whose domain matches that shop.

- **Site type.** In SearchMention go to **Dashboard → Settings** and set **Site type** to **Online store**.
- **WooCommerce REST API.** WordPress 6.2+, WooCommerce 8+. Keys live under **WooCommerce → Settings → Advanced → REST API**.
- **Read permission** is enough. SearchMention never writes products back to the store.

## 1 Create REST API keys

In WordPress, open **WooCommerce → Settings → Advanced → REST API**. Click **Add key**. Description can be “SearchMention”. User should be an admin. Permissions: **Read**.

Copy the `ck_…` consumer key and `cs_…` consumer secret. WooCommerce shows the secret only once.

**No SearchMention plugin** Catalog sync uses WooCommerce’s own REST API. Do not paste an `sm_live_` key here — that key is only for AI Traffic (Cloudflare Worker or Magento connector).

## 2 Paste them in SearchMention

Open **Dashboard → Settings → Product catalog** and set:

- **Store URL** — the WordPress site root that serves `/wp-json/wc/v3` (usually `https://yourstore.com`, no trailing slash).
- **Consumer key** — the `ck_…` value.
- **Consumer secret** — the `cs_…` value.

Click **Save & connect**, or **Test connection** first. A success notice includes the product and category counts WooCommerce reported. Keys are encrypted at rest and are never shown in full again.

## 3 Sync the catalog

Open **Pages & Readiness** and click **Sync catalog**. SearchMention queues a job, then walks categories and products in batches of 100. Watch the progress bar on that page. Variable products keep nested variations — they are not separate pages. A nightly job repeats the pull for connected stores.

**WordPress can stay closed** The pull runs on SearchMention’s queue. You do not need WP-Cron, Action Scheduler, or a browser tab on the store.

## 4 Confirm products landed

On **Pages & Readiness** the progress bar should reach complete, with product/category counts in sync history. Open a product and use the **Product details** tab. **Content Opportunities** unlocks once at least one product has synced.

Disconnecting the keys in Settings stops future pulls. Already synced catalog rows stay until the next successful sync from a connected store.

This connection does not install an AI Traffic pixel. For referral and bot tracking, use the Cloudflare Worker (or Magento connector on Magento stores).
