What changed in SearchMention

One entry every Friday: what we shipped that week for stores tracking what ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Gemini and Perplexity tell their shoppers.

  1. One-time AI audit, Shopify Catalog rank per question

A $49 audit across four AI engines with a re-check, and for Shopify stores, where each product ranks in Shopify Catalog next to what ChatGPT answered.

    • New one-time AI audit: 50 shopper questions on ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Gemini and Perplexity, the competitors AI mentions instead of you, and a re-check of the same questions 30 days later. No subscription.
    • Shopify stores now see where their products rank in Shopify Catalog for every tracked question, saved with each run so the rank can be compared over time, right next to what ChatGPT answered for the same question.
    • A product view of what Shopify Catalog tells AI shopping agents about each product, including the features Shopify generated itself and marks as inferred.
    • AI Readiness scores a Shopify store's catalog listing (product category, descriptions, photos and store policies) and shows the most common problems as filters, product by product.
    • Report highlights now list the competitors AI mentioned in the most questions, and each brand's questions show which engines mentioned it.
    • Sources are labelled by type: government and education sites, and marketplaces shown as marketplaces rather than company sites.
    • Stores behind a storefront password get a five-question preview, and the readiness scan says which checks can't be measured until the store is public.
  2. ChatGPT as free users see it, and pages ChatGPT read

Questions now run on the ChatGPT model free users get, and every lost answer shows whether ChatGPT read your page before naming someone else.

    • ChatGPT questions run on the model ChatGPT Free users get by default, with today's date and the shopper's country, the way ChatGPT itself asks.
    • Every ChatGPT answer records whether it searched the web, what it searched for and every page it read.
    • New "Read" label: ChatGPT read your page while answering but didn't mention or cite you. The answer's Sources tab lists those pages, your own first.
    • The shared report is rebuilt numbers first: every question can be filtered by outcome and by competitor, AI-written recommendations come last, and the PDF has its own page layout.
    • Product pages are checked from the store's own market, so the prices we compare match what local shoppers see.
    • Starter is now $29 a month (was $49): 30 questions on ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews, every week.
    • A glossary of the words in every report: mentioned, cited, read and sources.
  3. Agency trial, reports in Spanish, an API that runs reports

Agencies can try the Agency plan on client stores, reports follow the store's language, and the account API can run a store's questions.

    • Agency trial: agencies can ask us for a trial of the Agency plan on their own client stores, before paying.
    • The shared report follows the store's language, starting with Spanish; add ?lang=en for English.
    • "Pages AI used that mention you" is decided by reading each cited page, not by the answer it appeared in. Pages that block us are kept as unread, never as "doesn't mention you".
    • A page that refuses our check (rate limits, bot challenges) is reported as "couldn't check", never as a problem with your store.
    • Price checks only use prices the AI states with a currency, match them against every variant the page sells, and read price ranges correctly.
    • The account API can run a store's questions (after showing what the run will cost), read the full report, track competitors and redo a run's summary. Reference at /guides/api.
    • Competitor suggestions come from questions asked in the store's own language, so a Mexican store gets Mexican competitors.
  4. Google AI Overviews, cleaner AI Traffic

Google AI Overviews joins ChatGPT on every plan, Gemini answers show their real sources, and AI Traffic counts only people who clicked an AI answer.

    • Google AI Overviews is tracked on every plan, next to ChatGPT, so you see the Google answer shoppers meet above the search results.
    • Gemini answers record the pages Gemini actually used as citations.
    • AI Traffic no longer counts search clicks, crawlers or cloud-hosted tools as AI referrals: it shows people who clicked an AI answer.
    • Competitors are counted by who AI names, not only by who it links to.
    • Questions are written the way shoppers ask them, with an option to use customers' words for stores that use careful claims wording, such as supplements.
    • WooCommerce stores sync their catalog from the dashboard with REST API keys; no WordPress plugin needed.
    • An email when a store's first AI visibility report is ready.
    • Business websites are supported alongside online stores, for agencies with clients that sell services or software.
