See if ChatGPT recommends your products to shoppers

Shoppers ask ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews what to buy, and the answer names only a few products. SearchMention asks the questions your shoppers are likely to ask about products like yours and shows each answer: whether it mentions you, which brands it picks instead, the pages it used, and any price it got wrong. See what AI shopping agents are told about your products in Shopify Catalog, and fix what stops AI from reading them, from your Shopify admin.

The answer, not a score

Most AI visibility apps lead with a 0 to 100 score. A score can't tell you that ChatGPT named a competitor's bundle, linked your product to an Amazon reseller, or quoted last year's price. These five screens can.

1

Read every AI answer word for word: are you named, and is your price right?

We ask ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews the questions your shoppers are likely to ask about products like yours and show each answer in full, not a score. When an answer quotes a price and links your page, we compare it with every live variant on that product, so "$33.99 for the 4.5 lb bag" counts as right even if the page opens on the 1.5 lb bag.

2

See which brands AI recommends instead of you, question by question

Every answer that skipped you names someone else. The app lists the brands AI mentions most for your questions, with your store in the same list, so you know who you are actually up against in AI answers rather than in Google.

Brands AI mentions most, with your store among them

3

Find the sites and pages AI trusts, so you know where to get listed

For each answer you see the pages AI used: the roundups, reviews and marketplaces it relied on when it picked a product. Those are the places to get reviewed, listed or featured next.

4

Fix what stops AI from reading your products, with steps in your Shopify admin

A storefront password, crawlers blocked in robots.txt, missing product data or missing store policies: the app checks each product for what keeps AI from reading it and shows the fix where you make it, in your Shopify admin.

See where your products rank when AI shopping agents search Shopify Catalog

Shopify Catalog is where ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot and the Shop app get Shopify product data, and part of what it says about each product is written by Shopify. For every question, the app shows where your products rank in the catalog (top 50), who ranks ahead at what price, and what agents are told about each product, next to the AI answer for the same question. That is how you tell a catalog problem from an answer problem: in our test a supplement store's magnesium ranked #1 of 329 while ChatGPT's answer didn't name the store.

What the app asks for

Shopify shows you the permissions on the install screen. Here is what each one is for. Apps that rewrite product data for you ask for more, because they need to edit products, collections and the theme; this one only needs to read.

The whole permission list

  • Read your products, to know what you sell, write your shoppers' questions, and check prices and readiness page by page.
  • Read your legal policies, because missing refund and shipping policies are one of the things that keep AI from showing a product.
  • One web pixel, installed by the app and loaded in Shopify's pixel sandbox, to count visits that come from AI answers.

No write access to products, collections, theme, discounts, orders or customers.

Frequently asked questions

No. Its whole permission list is: read your products, read your legal policies, and install one web pixel that records visits from AI answers. It cannot edit a product, collection, theme, discount or customer. If you want fixes written for you, our comparison of Shopify apps names the apps that do, and what they ask for.
One audit of 15 questions your shoppers are likely to ask, on ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews: every answer in full, the brands named instead of you, what AI agents are told about your products in Shopify Catalog, what blocks AI on up to 100 products, and 30 days of visits from AI answers. No card.
Those apps change files on your store (llms.txt, JSON-LD, robots.txt) and never read an AI answer, so they cannot tell you whether ChatGPT names your products. SearchMention reads the answers. Shopify already serves agents.md on every store, and no major AI search engine has said it reads llms.txt.
Same data either way. The app lives in your Shopify admin, reads your catalog without a sitemap import, and bills through Shopify. The dashboard at searchmention.com adds WooCommerce and Magento stores and the Agency plan for several stores.
No. The only thing it adds to your storefront is one web pixel, which Shopify loads in its own pixel sandbox like any other pixel. Nothing is added to your theme.
